Queen's Own Worcestershire Hussars Cap Badge

World War I economy variant of the Queen's Own Worcestershire Hussars cap badge with lugs, die stamped.  The First World War "economy" cap badge is a monochromatic variation of the regiment's traditional insignia.

The badge depicts a central pear tree branch bearing fruit—a traditional heraldic emblem of Worcestershire dating back to the battle of Agincourt, encircled by a continuous scroll inscribed with “Queen's Own Worcestershire Hussars”.  The entire design is surmounted by a King's Crown (Tudor/Imperial Crown) representing the wartime reign of King George V.

The Economy Pattern: While standard pre-war and late-war variants were bi-metal (a white metal branch on a brass scroll), the 1916 economy variant was die-stamped entirely out of a single piece of all-brass (gilding metal) to preserve strategic cupro-nickel materials during the manufacturing pressures of WW1.

The Lug Attachment: This specific variant features two wire loop lugs (eyelets) soldered to the reverse side rather than a long slider. Lugs indicate the insignia was intended either as a smaller collar badge, worn on an officer's peaked service cap, or an early-war variant stamped using a pre-1903 manufacturing layout.

The Queen's Own Worcestershire Hussars (also widely known as the Worcestershire Yeomanry was a part-time territorial cavalry regiment mobilized on the outbreak of war in August 1914. Rather than serving on the Western Front, the regiment fought a highly mobile, hazardous campaign across the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern theatres.
