The War Merit Cross with Swords was instituted on the 11th October, 1939, and was awarded to those whose acts of courage were above the call of duty, yet did not meet the criteria for the Iron Cross. This is the 2nd Class version with swords, which were awarded for bravery.

 

This early-war, quality example is die struck in solid brass with an antique bronze finish. They are stamped with the makers code number on the suspension ring. The medal also comes with 6 inches of the according War Merit ribbon.
