Product Details

The 2nd Dragoon Guards, also known as the Bays, was a cavalry regiment in the British Army. First raised in 1685 as the Earl of Peterborough's Regiment of Horse by the merging of four existing troops of horse. It was later designated as the Queen's Regiment of Dragoon Guards in 1746, as it evolved into a Dragoon unit (highly mobile, mounted infantry with firearms) and named the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays) in 1767 to reflect the custom of its soldiers riding only bay horses. In 1937 the unit was mechanised with light tanks, becoming a part of the Royal Armoured Corps, and was amalgamated into the 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards after the Second World War.

Notable conflicts include the Second Boer War, the Indian Rebellion and both World Wars.

This fine reproduction of a WW2 regiment badge features a gold wreath surrounding 'Bays' and peaked with a queen's crown. It has an aged look, and is designed to be pinned to a beret, but does not come with an attachment pin.
